Every year we watch the Superbowl game at the comforts of Barry's parents home. It's the only time of the year we actually watch a football game! Can't you just tell how much of a sports fan we all are? LOL
In spite of us not following the football season to the tee like many sports fanatic out there, we love Superbowl weekend, it's another excuse for us to get together, be merry and eat lots of food!
I usually bring a couple of finger foods for our family-sports night and this year, I decided to make these creamy and crunchy Crab Rangoons along with my Philippine-style Empanadas. They were a hit!
This is for you Pittsburgh!!! GO STEELERS!!! One of Pennsylvania's Best!!!
*Thanks to Lala for this wonderful and easy Crab Rangoon recipe. They were fantastic!
Ingredients:
8 oz cream cheese
8 oz fresh or canned crab meat, drained or 1 ½ cup imitation crab
1/2 red onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
EVOO
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon light soy sauce
freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 package won ton wrappers
1 small bowl water
Oil for deep-frying, as needed
Directions:
Saute onions and garlic in oil. Let it sweat and set aside. Combine the cream cheese and crab meat. Add cooked onions and garlic. Mix in the remaining ingredients.
On a flat surface, lay out a won ton wrapper in front of you. Wet the edges of the won ton. Add 1 teaspoon of filling to the middle of the wrapper. Seal the edges by bringing them together on top. Cover Crab Rangoon with a damp towel or paper towel to keep them from drying out while preparing the remainder.
Prepare oil for deep-frying. When oil is ready (the temperature should be between 360 - 375 degrees), carefully slide in the Crab Rangoon. Deep-fry until they are golden brown, about 3 minutes, turning once. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain. Serve hot with Sweet and Sour Sauce or Chinese Hot Mustard.
This recipe can be doubled or tripled depending on the number of people being served. This recipe yields 50 pieces and also can be done ahead of time and simply fry as needed.
