Have you ever heard of this Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookies legend before? This has been circulating the web for years. I've gotten it numerous of times as a form of junk email from one of my friends or another and I've always ignored it until today. Just recently, I got it again for the umpteenth time so, I figured to give it a taste test!
The modern legend goes as these mother and daughter went to Neiman Marcus and stopped at their cafe and had these chocolate chip cookies. Apparently, the mother loved the cookie so much that she asked the server for the recipe of their ever so famous cookie. She received the cookie recipe. Then, few weeks later she got her charged card bill and there she was charged $250 for the recipe! She called Neiman Marcus to dispute the charges, but they won't give her a refund. Outraged and flabergasted, she decided to post the recipe online and passed it to all cookie-lovers with an email account...
No one really know how this story came about or if it's really true or not, but if you go to Neiman Marcus' website, they refute this myth and posted their very own chocolate chip cookie recipe for free! (This will be on my to do list for next time...hehehe)
Urban myth or not, but this is one of the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever made! I think the finely ground oats gave it hearty boost (at least now, I don't feel guilty on having a cookie or two...hahaha) and if you notice, I used one cup butter and one cup crisco to give my cookies some volume. Otherwise, using just plain butter will make your cookies go flat!
So, here you are...an Urban Myth Chocolate Chip Cookies!!! Hope you'll try it someday! ;-) They're really yummy! Great with an ice cold milk for dunking ;-P
