This Lasagna recipe is oozing with sauce and Mozarella cheese. This may not be the most healtiest meal out there, but it's good in every bite!!! Eat with caution...hehehe. Great served with Italian Garlic Bread!
Garlic Bread Recipe:
Lots of chopped garlic
Softened Stick of butter
Italian Seasoning
A Loaf of Italian Bread
Combine garlic and Italian seasoning with the softened butter. Mix well. Slice Italian bread, then spread butter-garlic mixture on top. Place garlic bread in a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes, then turn heat up to Broil and grilled for another 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
Ingredients:
For the Sauce:
1 lb Ground Beef
1/2-1 lb Italian Sweet Sausage, remove from casing
Lots of chopped garlic
Chopped onions - one big one is good enough
Few Tbsps. of Sugar or three packets of Splenda
Olive Oil
Basil
Oregano
Bay Leaves
Salt and Pepper
3-4 jars of Ragu Sauce (The Robusto Kind - Sauteed Onions and Garlic or Garlic Herbs) - the part I cheat on...but you can use any kind of tomato sauce...even the plain tomato sauce...like Hunt's or Store Brand ones...or you can make your own fresh tomato sauce from scratch)
One box of uncooked lasagna (any brand will do, but I prefer the whole wheat kind...extra fiber is good for you...LOL!)
Shredded Mozarella Cheese (approx. 4 cups)
Ricotta Cheese (approx. 4 cups)
Chopped Parsley
Parmessan Cheese
Directions:
Directions for the Sauce
Heat olive oil in a large sauce pan. Saute garlic and onions. Add ground beef and sausage. Brown beef thoroughly. Drain excess fat. Add jars of tomato sauce. Add basil, oregano, salt and pepper - no need to measure...put as much as you want or it depends on your taste. Then add sugar...again, depends on your taste. Simmer for 45 minutes to an hour. Stirring ocassionally. You can always make this sauce ahead of time or use it for spaghetti, linguine or angel hair pasta. I like angel hair pasta the most. This is basically your base tomato sauce.
Layering Process:
Get a large baking pan. Put a little sauce in the bottom of the pan first. Then start adding the first layer of cooked lasagna (pasta). Spread the ricotta cheese mixture on top of the pasta. Add some sauce, then sprinkle with mozarella cheese. Repeat the layering process until the bakinng pan is filled. You'll probably end up with 4-5 layers of lasagna pasta depending on the size of your pan. Lastly, add the remaing ricotta cheese mixture, sauce and mozarella cheese. Cover with aluminum foil (not too tight). Place baking pan on a sheet pan in case of overflow. Bake in the oven for 30-40 mins at 350 degrees F. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes until mozarella cheese is melted. Remove from the oven and let it cool for at least 30 mins. Serve with grated parmessan cheese on top.
